Matsubayashi-Ryu Shorin-Ryu Karate is an Okinawan style of Karate. Shorin-Ryu is characterized by natural movement, punches, kicks, blocks and moves that are most efficient. The style also practices weaponry including bo, sai, nunchaku, and others. Okinawan martial arts have been passed down through Kata, a dance-like choreography of movements and techniques. Grand Master Shoshin Nagamine developed the Matsubayashi-Ryu system of Shorin-Ryu in 1947.
The benefits from Karate span over a lifetime. Karate improves self-esteem, self-discipline, respect, concentration and courtesy. These skills have been shown to improve young students' listening abilities, the ability to follow instruction, and study habits. These attributes spill over into all aspects of life including school performance and home life. All students can benefit from improved physical and mental health including self-esteem, confidence, concentration as well as cardiovascular fitness, balance, reflex coordination, developing strength, weight control and increased energy. Not to mention, learning self-defense techniques and having fun!
